Biochem/physiol Actions
Digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) along with monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) is involved in chloroplast membrane biogenesis and photosynthesis. DGDG and MGDG are responsible for the intake of proteins into the chloroplast.
General description
Digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) is a galactosylglycerolipid, which is a major lipid component in the thylakoid membrane of leaf chloroplasts. It is also present in the fruits, grains and roots. DGDG is synthesized from Monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) by the enzyme DGDG synthase DGD1 .
